KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah PKR leader has denied allegations that he raped two Indonesian women, saying this was a ploy to tarnish his image ahead of the party elections.
State PKR Youth chief Raymond Ahuar said the allegations, which had gone viral on social media, could possibly be an attempt by his political rivals to sabotage him.
Ahuar, who is the political secretary to Deputy Chief Minister Christina Liew, confirmed that he had lodged a police report over the matter at the Keningau police headquarters last Friday.
“We need to identify who the women are, who recorded the video and those responsible for spreading it.
“I do not wish to comment further because it’s under police probe now but just that I believe it has something to do with the upcoming party elections… but I’m not accusing anyone. I’ll just wait for the police,” he told FMT.
Ahuar, who is part of Rafizi Ramli’s team, is contesting the PKR deputy chief’s post at the national level and he is also hoping to be a member of the central leadership council.
Rafizi is challenging Mohamed Azmin Ali for the deputy president’s post.
A police source who declined to be named said two women had been detained for further investigations.
In the video posted on Youtube, a woman who identified herself as “Linda” claimed that she and her friend, Wilda, were brought to Sabah by a man, whom she only identified as Raden, and Ahuar.
She did not, however, state when they came to the state, only that they had been kept for a week by the men.
She alleged the two men raped and beat them up and claimed that she was also abused with an iron. Linda claimed to have filed a police complaint but did not state when and where the report was lodged.
Ahuar said he did not know any of the women.
He said he had received many calls, including from Liew, asking him about the allegations.
“This was meant as a personal attack and it has affected my family. My advice to my colleagues in the party is to stick to PKR’s direction instead of launching personal attacks,” he said.
The PKR elections in Sabah will be held on Nov 3 and 4. -FMT
