NAJIB Razak and Rosmah Mansor have had to dip into their savings and get financial help from relatives to pay their lawyers’ fees and post bail, said their daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib.
“The past month has indeed been challenging for my parents. Lawyers fees aside, the bail posted for my parents have now reached RM6.5 million.
“We have been drawing on the kind help of relatives, the tabung which was collected earlier for my dad and my parents’ savings,” she posted on her Instagram account tonight.
“My dad has even been forced to dip into his savings account in Affin Bank Wangsa Maju which was used to receive his salary, allowances, pensions and gratuity from his decades in public service.”
The former prime minister is out on RM3.5 million bail for 25 charges of money-laundering and abuse of power in relation to RM2.6 billion allegedly donated by Saudi royals and channelled into his accounts.
He also posted bail of RM1 million for other charges in relation to receiving RM42 million from SRC International, a former 1Malaysia Development Bhd subsidiary.
Rosmah, meanwhile, was granted bail of RM2 million after she was charged yesterday with 17 counts of money-laundering and tax evasion. She has up to October 11 to post bail in instalments.
Nooryana said her brother, Ashman, has been trying to open a bank account to collect donations.
But he faced difficulties as “bank officers have privately told him that their senior management is fearful of being seen to be helping my dad”, she said.
“In the interest of fairness, I hope the banks will not succumb to the fear of government pressure or reprisal and will allow my brother to help do his part to help our parents,” said Najib and Rosmah’s only daughter who is currently studying in the US.
