PD POLLS | Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says that PKR has spent 20 years campaigning without government machinery, and do not need it to win an election.
“For 20 years, our machinery has never been government machinery, and we could still successfully form the government.
“So there is no excuse now that we have formed the government for us to use government machinery.
“That is the same thing that caused BN’s defeat in the past,” the PKR secretary-general said in a press conference at the Pakatan Harapan operations room in Port Dickson Waterfront today.
Saifuddin was responding to criticism that Harapan candidate for Port Dickson Anwar Ibrahim had been using government machinery to aid his election campaign.
Two of his challengers, independent candidates Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan and Stevie Chan, had called Anwar out for speaking at a military event as well as in mosques.
Previously, electoral watchdog Bersih had raised concerns about cabinet ministers indirectly campaigning for the de facto Harapan leader.
Saifuddin defended these incidents, however, saying that Anwar was invited as a guest to the military event, which also featured Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu.
He said that if even he himself is sometimes invited to speak in mosques, as he is recognised in public, then Anwar would get even more invites.
“And as Muslims, we should remind each other to be more religious,” he added. - Mkini
