Umno's culture of idolising leaders is now creeping into PKR, warned its deputy president Azmin Ali.
Calling for this Umno culture of “hand kissing” to be curbed, he said: "I would like to remind all party members to be loyal to the struggle and not become obsessed with leaders as it is not a healthy culture.”
According to Berita Harian, Azmin, who is defending his post against Rafizi Ramli, said this after meeting Terengganu PKR members in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.
"When we hold on to the idealism of our struggle, no matter what harassment or challenges we face, we will not waver or stray from our principles.
"The culture of apple polishing and idolising leaders cannot exist in the party," he added.
PKR members in the state are set to go to the polls to determine the party's leadership this weekend.
To date, Penang and Johor have voted in the PKR election and the voting process would only conclude on Nov 4.
Azmin is presently leading, having garnered 3,326 votes to Rafizi's 3,150 votes in Penang and 4,503 votes to Rafizi's 3,976 votes in Johor. - Mkini
