Who is serving 'capati' promises now? Najib recalls old jibe

Former premier Najib Abdul Razak has launched another salvo against the Pakatan Harapan government with regard to its manifesto.
Commenting on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's remark that the manifesto was crafted at a time when Harapan did not imagine coming to power, he claimed this meant the document was penned with the aim of duping the people and there was no intention of implementing the promises.
“This is akin to a youth attempting to woo a woman, he promises the moon and the stars. But after marriage, habuk pun tak ada (nothing promised is done).
“This is different with BN, we made a manifesto with the aim of delivering the promises,” he added in a Facebook post this morning.
The former premier also recalled how in the past, Harapan leaders had mocked the BN manifesto under his leadership as “Janji Dicapati” in reference to the popular Indian bread.
BN's campaign for the 2013 general election was “Janji Ditepati” (promises delivered). This was to show that the coalition had kept its word with regard to previous election pledges.
Najib argued that records would show that BN had delivered a large portion of the promises.
He also claimed that he had taken his officers by surprise when just hours before making an announcement, he had amended BN's pledges to increase the BR1M payment.
“But Harapan's manifesto, there is no attempt to keep the promises. On the contrary, excuses are sought,” he added.
Yesterday, it was reported that Mahathir conceded that the Harapan manifesto was a colossal burden after claiming it would not be possible to abolish tolls on highways.
Harapan leaders have claimed that some of the promises in the manifesto were hampered due to the RM1 trillion debt inherited from Najib's administration.
The former premier has repeatedly denied this figure. -Mkini
