Pasir Pinji assemblyperson Howard Lee emerged victorious in today's DAP Youth election, beating out his rival by a slim majority to become its new chairperson.
Lee, the former DAP Youth international secretary, garnered 189 votes against Chow Yu Hui's 166.
He succeeds Ipoh Timur MP Wong Kah Woh in the post.
Chow's running mate, Chiong Yoke Kong, also recorded a narrow victory, defeating Phoong Jin Zhe by just 36 votes to become the new DAP Youth deputy chief.
Former Selangor youth wing chief Teh Hoong Keat won the secretary post uncontested.
The 357 delegates who attended the DAP Youth National Congress also voted in four vice-chairpersons, namely Mordi Anak Bimol, Liow Cai Tung, Muhammad Shakir Ameer Mohideen and Jenny Choy Tsi Jen.
Bandar Utama assemblyperson Jamaliah Jamaluddin (photo) finished with the highest number of votes for the 15 national executive council seats up for grabs.
Jamaliah tallied 311, followed by Heng Yeh Shiuan (301), Khoo Khim Han (271), Tan Tiong Yih (264) and Yu Ong Ching (263).
Speaking to reporters after the announcement, Lee said the new leadership lineup is ready to represent the rakyat, and play its part to keep the Pakatan Harapan administration in check.
"Now the delegates have made their decision, we are going to move forward as a united force to strengthen Harapan and carry its visions together.
"We will also be the check and balance not only for DAP affairs, but also for government policies, to carry the 'New Malaysia' vision," he said. - Mkini
