MALAYSIA HAS ORDERED ITS ATTORNEY-GENERAL TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST GOLDMAN, FINANCE MINISTER GUAN ENG CONFIRMS

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has tasked Attorney-General Tommy Thomas to take legal action against American investment bank Goldman Sachs over their alleged roles in the 1MDB scandal, says Lim Guan Eng.
“On the extent of legal process, the best person to answer about it is the AG. Definitely we will be pursuing with Goldman,” the finance minister said today, without providing details on the kind of legal action to be taken.
Goldman Sachs was sued by International Petroleum Investment Co (IPIC) and Aabar Investments PJS last month for losses suffered by the Abu Dhabi investment fund over 1MDB.
The companies are seeking unspecified damages in their lawsuit filed in New York.
They accused Goldman Sachs of paying bribes to IPIC’s former managing director, Khadem Al-Qubaisi, and former Aabar Investments CEO Ahmed Badawy Al-Husseiny.
They said the duo manipulated IPIC and Aabar to “further the criminal schemes and to personally benefit”.
Thomas previously denied a report that the government was preparing a US$4.5 bilion (RM18.8 bilion) suit against Goldman Sachs.
It was previously claimed that Thomas was preparing to file the billion dollar suit to recover losses over the bank’s roles in obtaining the funds for 1MDB.
