PETALING JAYA: Former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (pic) has urged party leaders to immediately convene a meeting of the party's supreme council.
This was after six Umno MPs announced their resignations from the party on Friday (Dec 14).
One Wednesday (Dec 12), Sabah Umno took a crippling body blow when most of its leaders - five of six MPs, nine of 10 assemblymen and two senators - quit the party.
According to Hishammuddin, an immediate meeting of the party's top decision-making body was needed in light of the current situation.
."In a situation which is full of uncertainty and worry, I urge the top leadership of Umno to immediately call for a meeting of the supreme council," he said.
The council was supposed to hold its meeting on Sunday (Dec 16) night, but the meeting has been postponed, with no new date given.
Hishammuddin said in a tweet that guarantees should be given to the party grassroots on the leadership's steps and decisions to manage the Umno crisis.
"Don't hesitate, the grassroots are hoping (for action)," he said.-Star
