PUTRAJAYA: Gerakan Pembela Ummah (Ummah) has called on Attorney General Tommy Thomas to resign from his post, citing incompetence in several national issues.
Ummah chairman Aminuddin Yahaya said the latest issue to trigger the resignation demand was the inquest into fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim's death in the Seafield temple riots.
Muhammad Adib was seriously injured during the riot in November last year.
He died on Dec 17 at the National Heart Institute.
"An affidavit was filed by the Attorney General's Chambers to say that Adib's death was accidental and not a murder. For this to happen in the midst of an ongoing inquest into the death suggests that there is interference.
"And only a few days ago, we found out that lawyer Syazlin Mansor who was representing the Housing and Local Government Ministry had been instructed to pull out from the inquest.

"Together with many cases in the past, including the Rome Statute issue as well as the Icerd (International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination) issue, it has shown that the AG is not competent to do his job.
"We are demanding for him to step down from his post," said Aminuddin to reporters here on Friday (May 31).
A group of Ummah members went to the AGC here to submit a memorandum calling for Tommy's resignation.
A representative from Tommy's office received the memorandum on his behalf.
Ummah deputy chairman Kamaruzaman Mohamad told reporters he was informed that Tommy was in his office but refused to meet the group.
"We have asked to submit the memorandum to him in person. But he has refused to come and see us for reasons known only to himself.
"This does not reflect transparency," said Kamaruzaman.
He added that the group would also submit memorandums to the Prime Minister's Office, as well as to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after Hari Raya.
"If there is no response to all these, we will plan a massive protest rally," said Kamarazuman.
On April 5, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Cabinet had decided not to ratify Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court that covers serious crimes and crimes against humanity.
In November last year, the Pakatan Harapan government said it would not ratify the Icerd, which is a United Nations convention which commits its members to the elimination of racial discrimination and the promotion of understanding among all races.
Several parties opposed Icerd, saying that it contravened the Federal Constitution, particularly Article 153, which touches on the special rights of the Malays and the bumiputra community in the country.
Ummah recently organised the "405" rally in Kuala Lumpur, held supposedly to defend the "sovereignty of Islam".- Star
