Azmin claims Selangor declined after he left MB's office

Bersatu leader Azmin Ali today claimed that Selangor went into decline after he left the menteri besar's office in 2018.

Azmin (above) is believed to have hand-picked the current menteri besar, Amirudin Shari, as his successor.

"After I left (the menteri besar's office), I can see a decline in (Selangor's) performance.

"So my responsibility is to retain Selangor's excellence so that Selangor will continue to develop and benefit its people and that we can form a good working relationship between the federal and state governments," he was quoted as saying by Astro Awani.

Azmin said the relationship between Putrajaya and Shah Alam was "personally good", but could be improved.

Asked whether he would lead the state again, he said this will be up to the people.

"I can (serve) anywhere. A fertile seed cast into the ocean becomes an island, and if it’s thrown onto soil it will become a mountain," Azmin added.

The Bersatu supreme council member had previously won the Gombak parliamentary seat and Bukit Antarabangsa state seat under PKR for the past three elections.

However, he defected from PKR during the Sheraton Move in 2020.

Azmin had said that he was willing to defend his seats.

Amirudin was a close associate of Azmin prior to 2020, but has remained with PKR and is now a vice-president of the party. - Mkini
