PETALING JAYA: The report by a committee formed to investigate allegations that Public Services Department (JPA) director-general Shafiq Abdullah had publicly berated an immigration officer at KLIA in August has been handed to the chief secretary to the government, Zuki Ali.

In a parliamentary written reply, law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the report was signed by all four members of the committee and presented to Zuki on Aug 22 “for further action”.

“The committee conducted interviews with witnesses on Aug 10, 11, 12 and 18, with a discussion held on the same day the report was finalised on Aug 19,” Wan Junaidi said in response to a question from Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (PH-Bandar Baharu) on an update on the committee’s investigation.

Headed by Attorney-General Idrus Harun, the committee also comprised Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Auditor-General Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) head Azam Baki.

Zuki previously said the committee was tasked with conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice was served, adding that their recommendations would be presented to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Cabinet agreed on Aug 5 that a committee be set up to investigate allegations that Shafiq allegedly berated immigration officer James Lee on Aug 3.

JPA denied that Shafiq committed such an act, claiming that he rightly reprimanded Lee over non-compliance with procedures after he failed to check the director-general and his delegation for their travel documents and passports.

When reports of the incident first broke, home minister Hamzah Zainudin responded by saying that he had instructed immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud to investigate the allegations. - FMT
