Bung and Shafie were only in it for the power

From Clement Stanley

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi came to Sabah ostensibly to broker a peace deal between the warring parties of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Barisan Nasional – Warisan Plus, led by Bung Mokhtar Radin and Shafie Apdal respectively.

We no longer live in an era of gunslingers dropping into town to stamp their authority. This is the 21st century.

This is Sabah. The land of folklore heroes such as the warrior Antanom whom many believe the town of Tenom in the interior district was named after.

This is Sabah where many battles were fought against marauding outsiders who came to our shores to try and stamp their authority. While many of these legends have come and gone, the spirit of the brave Sabahans lives on.

Therefore, was there a need for 44 brave warriors led by Hajiji to give in to the demands and greed of Bung, Shafie Apdal or even Peter Anthony of Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat?

If Shafie and Peter really cared for Sabah and its people, why stay away from the state assembly sitting of Jan 10 when the Gas Supply Bill and Energy Commission Bill 2023 were passed ?

(Bung, it must be said, had to be in KL for the Umno meet.)

These two Bills were for the benefit of Sabahans and their future generations.

If they believed in establishing a unity government, could they not have held open discussions with Hajiji instead of attempting a coup? Now when the coup has failed, they say they prefer a unity government. They should have said so in the first place.

The truth of the matter is that this has nothing to do with a unity government. It is nothing more than a blatant attempt to seize power. An opportunist will always be an opportunist.

Nobody knows what discussions were held behind closed doors when the prime minister and deputy prime minister came to Sabah to try and diffuse a rather sticky situation. All we know is that the concept of a unity government was brandished openly. This is what Bung and Shafie wanted.

This is what they got when Hajiji announced his new Cabinet made up of GRS, Umno (BN), PKR and DAP (PH) leaders.

Now Bung says this is not what Anwar had proposed when suggesting a unity government. Was it Anwar’s call to make? Shouldn’t it be Hajiji’s call?

Warisan and KDM can still show that they are fighting for the rights of Sabah by endorsing this unity government. But only if they want to. - FMT
