Cynthia Gabriel steps down as C4 chief

Cynthia Gabriel has served as executive director of the Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism since 2016.

PETALING JAYA: The Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) has announced that its founder, Cynthia Gabriel, will be stepping down as executive director.

Pushpan Murugiah, an investigative researcher at the organisation, will replace Cynthia as the acting CEO.

“We thank her for her remarkable contributions to combat corruption these past seven years,” said C4 in a statement today.

“She will continue to serve as a senior adviser and help C4 set direction and policies.”

Cynthia will also remain on C4’s board of directors.

In December 2021, Cynthia was named by the US State Department as one of its “Anti-Corruption Champions”.

She was among eight people from across the globe recognised for their work to expose and combat corruption.

She has also been nominated for the 2022 International Women of Courage Award by the US embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

C4 also said its programme manager, Sudhagaran Stanley, will take on the role of deputy CEO.

“We trust the new leadership will uphold the credibility and reputation that C4 has built over the last seven years and will seek to raise anti-corruption efforts in Malaysia in the coming years,” it said. - FMT
