PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin has accused Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of twisting the truth for stating that he had cancelled vehicle provisions for former ministers as a cost-saving measure.
“What kind of lies are these? Anwar said he cancelled car benefits for former ministers. Since when have former ministers had car benefits?” said the former education minister on Facebook.
“How do you cancel something that doesn’t even exist?”
Following calls to abolish or reduce the pensions of former Cabinet members on Wednesday, Anwar said this would be “impossible” to implement as it is enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
However, Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said he was able to cancel vehicle provisions for former ministers.
“It’s impossible to abolish or remove the pension as this issue is something that has to do with the Federal Constitution and it needs to be looked at closely,” he had told reporters after a post-Cabinet meeting.
“What I have done for now … I have removed facilities such as vehicles for former ministers.” - FMT
