Ramesh Rao, the recently appointed special officer to Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in charge of affairs related to the Indian community, has died. He was 52.
In a tweet, Bernama TV said that he passed away this morning.
Ramesh died at his home in Petaling Jaya. It is believed that he had suffered a heart attack.
The Deputy Prime Minister’s Office confirmed his passing.
In sending his condolences to Ramesh’s family, Zahid also expressed appreciation for Ramesh’s service to the community and country.
"With feelings of sadness and grief, I and the entire staff of the Deputy Prime Minister's Office and Rural and Regional Development Ministry convey our condolences to the family of the late Ramesh Rao who died early this morning.
"May the family members, acquaintances and close friends of the deceased find solace and strength in the face of the loss of their loved one," he said in a statement.
Ramesh, who was the Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin NGO president, had just been entrusted with the Indian affairs special officer role last month.
