PETALING JAYA: After a month of learning the ropes, economic affairs minister Rafizi Ramli says he is ready to bring tangible change to the country’s economy.
The Pandan MP said after speaking to key stakeholders in the past month, he believed the country was on the right track.
He said he would consider it a personal success to have the public “feel” the improvement in the economy.
However, he acknowledged that while some issues could be resolved fast, others would take more than a year or longer.
“The past month has given me a clear picture to ‘run faster’ this month. Some of the effects will be felt immediately, and some might be yielded in a year or more,” Rafizi said in a long Twitter thread.
“I feel that there will be better returns from every taxpayer ringgit spent by the government. God willing, if we work on 10 things, while not all will give 100% returns as planned, a large number will have a medium to long-term impact for the country.”
Rafizi also expects Perikatan Nasional to continue disputing every effort by the government to better the economy, including taking potshots at him.
“Some make fun of me, saying I only sound impressive when I was in the opposition but not effective when I’m in government.
“God willing, that will be a challenge that I will take on. But coming from those who had formed a backdoor government, this is akin to ‘spitting at the sky’,” he said. - FMT
