Kedah announces holiday for Thaipusam on Feb 5

 

The Sri Subramaniyar temple in Sungai Petani is the focus of Thaipusam celebrations in Kedah each year.

ALOR SETAR: The Kedah government has declared Feb 5 as an occasional holiday in conjunction with Thaipusam.

Menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor said the decision was made at a state executive council meeting on Jan 18.

“This is to facilitate the Hindu community celebrating the religious event with their families,” he said in a statement today.

He also hoped non-Hindus will use the long weekend purposefully as Thaipusam falls on a Sunday. - FMT
