Kelantan MB: We don't know how PMD agency will disburse RM50m flood aid

The Kelantan state government claimed it is in the dark on how RM50 million in flood aid previously announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will be disbursed.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob said this was because the funds are being channelled through the Kelantan Federal Development Department (JPP) - an agency under the Prime Minister's Department's (PMD) Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU).

"We hold to the prime minister's promise to allocate RM50 million (each) to Kelantan and Terengganu, but now it is being channelled to the Kelantan JPP.

"So we don't know how the aid will be disbursed to the people of Kelantan," he said during a press conference after a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceremony to hand out separate flood aid in Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat today.

Earlier, Anwar had announced the RM100 million allocation to be split between Kelantan and Terengganu during a visit to Kota Bharu in December at the height of the monsoon floods.

He had said that it was meant to be early aid to alleviate the people's burden after being affected by floods.

Earlier, Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said a total of RM232 million was needed to repair the infrastructure and public facilities damaged in the Peninsular during the floods.

He said most of the damage occurred in the east coast states, with repairs costing RM196 million. - Mkini
