The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) supreme council meeting in Kota Kinabalu today voted unanimously for Maximus Ongkili to continue leading the party as its president.
Thanking the members for their continuous support and trust, Ongkili said it would buy the party time to find a capable successor.
“Although I have announced to step down by the next (PBS) election year, the supreme council members have voted for me to stay. This will provide PBS ample time to identify my successor,” he said in a statement tonight.
Ongkili, who won the top post unopposed during the party election last June, added that many young leaders in the party are capable of building and taking the party to greater heights.
The former Kota Marudu MP announced at the annual convention of PBS delegates in June last year that he would step down as party president in three years.
