Touch 'n Go asked to submit 'scheduled report' to ministry

Digital payments company Touch 'n Go (TNG) was instructed to submit a scheduled report to the government for the examination and monitoring of the services it provides.

“They (TNG) have to give us detailed reports from time to time, these are scheduled reports.

“This is because officials and enforcement agencies will be able to monitor this matter. Then I can inform the people about the progress the government has obtained from them,” said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Salahuddin Ayub.

He said this to Malaysiakini after meeting with TNG today.

The meeting was held after he called TNG to explain public complaints regarding the recently launched TNG Visa prepaid cards which cannot be used in the same way as the older TNG cards - to pay tolls and public transport fares.

Commenting further, he said some time has been given to the company to ensure the best service for its customers.

“I give them a period of time to ensure that the promised service can actually be provided to the customer.

“The time period depends, where we have to first see what happens after Chinese New Year and then during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations,” he added.

TNG ‘must be responsible’

Salahuddin said he also wants TNG to be responsible and pay full attention to the complaints made by its users - including complaints about the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system for toll payments.

The RFID toll payment system has often been criticised due to recurring problems during toll payment, including tag readers failing to detect RFID stickers on vehicles, causing congestion at the RFID toll lanes.

“Many dispute the quality of the RFID system. Based on personal experience, I have been interrupted many times and even though it only takes a few minutes or seconds, it disrupts traffic.

“So, they (TNG) must be responsible for ensuring maintenance. Don’t just present the product but make mistakes (later).

“Errors are common and I understand all systems in the world have problems but they still happen and when users want the best, then it becomes an issue for the authorities,” he said.

The recent introduction of the TNG Visa card, which is connected to the TNG e-wallet, gave users a convenient way to make digital payments.

However, TNG previously confirmed that the new TNG Visa cards cannot be used at tolls or some parking lots due to integration problems with the Visa Paywave NFC facility. - Mkini
