PAS is confident that Perikatan Nasional (PN) can capture Selangor in the upcoming state election.
According to Selangor PAS commissioner Ahmad Yunus Hairi, this is because the state’s voters are tired of Pakatan Harapan’s “lies and false promises”.
“In the last general election, Harapan and BN candidates lost in six parliamentary seats in the state, while BN failed to win even one seat in Selangor.
“Harapan is seen as unable to carry the image that the rakyat wants in the administration, especially when the coalition started working with BN, which they have previously accused of kleptocracy,” Yunus said in a statement today.
He said the current Selangor government has failed to solve the people’s various problems despite being in power since 2008.
These include the cost of living, job opportunities, housing issues, floods, slope and highland management, water pollution, as well as infrastructure and internet connection issues.
‘Reject populist govt’
“The people of Selangor want a government that has integrity and can look after them while developing the state, instead of a populist one that can only make false promises but fall short of delivering them.
“Based on these factors and the ‘green wave’ that contributed to PAS’ huge victory in the last general election, PAS is confident of capturing Selangor, together with PN, which can deliver a ‘clean and stable’ administration wanted by the rakyat,” Yunus said.
Selangor has been under Harapan since 2008, and PAS used to be part of the state administration under the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat.
Yunus’ statement comes two days after PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli expressed confidence that Harapan can win at least 45 Selangor assembly seats if the party’s machinery works hard in the coming state election.
Rafizi also predicted that the coalition will likely lose seven to eight seats out of the 51 seats it won in the 14th general election (GE14) in 2018 when Bersatu was part of the coalition.
The Selangor state legislative assembly consists of 56 constituencies. Forty of the seats are held by Harapan components, while BN and PN hold five each. Pejuang, PBM, and Warisan hold three, two, and one seats, respectively. - Mkini
