The production company behind the film ‘Pulau’ said they had no intention to offend anyone after the film's trailer caused controversy for allegedly being lewd.
However, WebTVAsia founder Fred Chong (above), said the film should not be judged based on the trailer alone.
"What’s in the trailer is just one percent of all the scenes in the film.
"So, I hope the public doesn't make assumptions before watching the film which is due to be released on March 9," he told Malaysiakini.
As for criticism about the film's characters being scantily clad, Chong said it was no different than what people wear when on an island vacation.
"The actors' clothes are in line with beach wear," he said.
The horror thriller film caused a stir on social media after the trailer caught the public eye.
Among the critics was former deputy religious affairs minister Ahmad Marzuk Shaary, who called the film obscene.
Chong, however, said the film, the trailer, and other promotional material have all been vetted by the Film Censorship Board (LPF) in August last year.
This includes cutting four scenes from the movie - which is classified as PG13.
The film's cast includes Aliff Satar, Amelia Henderson, Ikmal Amry, Joey Leong, Harris Annuar, Evie Feroza, Siew Pui Yi (popularly known as Ms Puiyi), Namron, Mark O’Dea and Sabronzo Dolla. - Mkini
