Service on Kelana Jaya LRT line back to normal

A switch malfunction led to longer wait for commuters.

PETALING JAYA: Service on the Kelana Jaya LRT line is back to normal after a switch malfunction.

In a statement, operator Rapid Rail said the switch malfunction led to trains moving slowly and stopping for longer periods between stations.

“Repair works were completed at 6.42pm and service has returned to normal. The switch allows for the trains to change from one track to another,” it said.

The fist switch malfunction occurred at 4.24pm and led to trains being driven manually between the KL Sentral and Pasar Seni stations.

A second switch malfunction occurred between the Damai and Dato’ Keramat stations at 5.26pm.

Last month, transport minister Loke Siew Fook told commuters to expect disruptions on the Kelana Jaya LRT line in the coming months, all the way to the third quarter of this year.

Loke said there were 56 LRT train sets operating on the Kelana Jaya line, of which 18 were under maintenance, meaning that only 38 were in use.

This was why train frequency had been at five minutes lately, even during peak hours, he said. - FMT
