'Son vomiting, listless': Pasir Mas Hospital probed after mum's viral post

The Kelantan Health Department is conducting an investigation on the Pasir Mas Hospital following reports of dissatisfaction by individuals who claimed to have received bad treatment there.

The department’s director, Dr Zaini Hussin, said he was aware of an individual’s statement which went viral on social media yesterday.

“We are investigating,” he simply said when contacted by Malaysiakini today.

Earlier, Facebook user Azimah Abdullah Zawawi, in a long thread on the social media platform, expressed her disappointment over an incident that happened to her son who received treatment at the hospital.

According to her, her son was injured in the face and mouth after a motorcycle accident and was sent to the Pasir Mas Hospital Emergency Unit at 3.45pm, on Jan 14.

“My son was referred to the District Dental Clinic and received treatment from 4.45pm until 9pm. During the treatment, my son was left alone with his mouth open without supervision for 30 to 40 minutes.

“After receiving stitches from the officer on duty, my son was referred back to the doctor in the Emergency Unit,” she said, adding that her son received treatment in a wheelchair.

Azimah said she regretted that her son was allowed to go home even though he was badly sick and motionless, because she was told the hospital ward was full.

“As a mother, I feel very uncertain about bringing my child home because my child is still vomiting and listless. I begged for my child to be admitted to the ward for hospital monitoring. The doctor rejected my application on the grounds that the hospital lacked beds and had many patients.

“Many times I pleaded for my son to be admitted but he was ignored because they wanted to treat another case.

“I also suggested that my son be transferred to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ II) since he needed to be referred to an oral surgeon the next day. Once again, my proposal was rejected on the grounds that HRPZ II also had no vacant beds,” she explained.

The woman then requested the Health Ministry to monitor the attitudes and actions of the staff on duty.
