KOTA KINABALU: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is confident that Sabah’s political turmoil will soon draw to an end after last week’s failed attempt at toppling Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Sabah Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders here, Zahid said he and Pakatan Harapan chairman and prime minister Anwar Ibrahim were now set for a “heart-to-heart” talk with Hajiji later tonight.
“We will surely find a way to solve this crisis, and we vow we will reach a win-win solution. I am sure that once the meeting is over, Anwar will meet you (media) and inform everyone about the decision reached at the negotiations,” said Zahid.
Anwar and Zahid will also meet leaders from Sabah Umno and other parties such as Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Warisan.
On Friday, state assembly members from BN-Umno retracted their support for Hajiji amid speculation that Sabah Umno and Warisan would work together to form a new state government.
However Hajiji said yesterday he has majority support from 44 of Sabah’s 79 state assemblymen to enable him to continue in office. - FMT
