A jilted ex-lover is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly dousing his former girlfriend and her mother with petrol in a bid to set them ablaze.
The suspect is believed to have gone on a destructive rampage, setting fire to the woman’s belongings before igniting her car with petrol, damaging both the vehicle and the front section of her house.
The woman suffered burn injuries, including to her hair.
The suspect, whose attack was recorded on CCTV, had also allegedly killed the woman's pet chicken with a machete.
According to the New Straits Times, the man was brought before the Kajang Sessions Court this morning to face a charge of attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine, or up to 20 years if the victim sustained serious injuries.
He will also be charged under Section 435 of the Penal Code with committing mischief by fire with intent to cause damage to property, an offence punishable by up to 14 years’ imprisonment and a fine.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, was arrested shortly after the attack last Friday while hiding in a neighbour’s unit at an apartment in Bandar Saujana Putra in an attempt to evade arrest.
The report added that the woman is believed to have ended her relationship with the suspect more than a month ago and had not been in contact with him until the attack. - Mkini
