Bangi MP pushes political boycott of US embassy following aggression on Iran

BANGI MP Syahredzan Johan suggested that MPs boycott events organised by the US embassy.

According to him, MPs who do not hold government positions should take a stand on Washington’s role in the recent attack on Iran.

Acknowledging the need for government officials to attend such events to maintain cordial ties with the US, he said MPs who were not members of the administration could still make a political statement by avoiding US embassy functions.

“If we get invitations for their Independence Day celebration, let’s not attend. We would show that we can no longer accept what they are doing,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat.

The DAP man was interjecting in a debate on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s ministerial statement on the US-Israel attack on Iran.

Meanwhile, Anwar Ibrahim also revealed that there have been external efforts working together with certain groups within the country, using funds and influence to undermine the interests of the government and the nation.

The Prime Minister said these efforts by certain parties arose following the strong stance taken by Malaysia in opposing the violence of the Israeli regime, particularly against the people of Gaza and Palestine, and most recently, the attacks on Iran.

He was responding to a question raised by Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hasan (PN-Kota Bharu), who cited a statement by Inspector General of the Royal Malaysia Police Mohd Khalid Ismail, confirming that investigations are underway into allegations of attempts to topple the government and sabotage national stability.

Khalid had earlier stated that the investigation involves a prominent local individual who is allegedly linked to an international media agency.

Elaborating further, Anwar said that the case in question certainly requires thorough investigation, given that it is deeply concerning. — Focus Malaysia
