Nasi Kerabu vendor authenticates cooking by displaying IC for public viewing; netizens were tickled pink

DOING business in the Ramadan bazaar is no easy thing. While the hungry customers see only the wide variety of food on display, vendors see a very different picture.

Profit margin is tight as there are many competitors and the race is on to make enough profit to cover up for the site rental and other expenses.

That said, people can get rather creative in this very loud market to grab the customers’ attention. Take for example, an auntie who sold Nasi Kerabu IC. The name isn’t just for decoration as she really did put up a huge poster of her IC for view.

But for what purpose? Is this to authenticate that she is a local vendor and not some migrant from Indonesia, or the Philippines?

For those looking for a close up of her IC, here is a helpful photo from netizen @mrs_shenrixky.

Apparently the lady was from Kelantan. Then there was netizen @ianthatbih stating that because non Kelantanse do not make good Nasi Kerabu.

@siputbelang96 added that the auntie is aware that non Kelantanese do not follow the right recipe when making Nasi Kerabu. So this is the reason.

However, @yukarimas94 said it was unnecessary to show one’s IC. All the person has to do is speak and people would know she is from Kelantan.

Also, the post prompted @opheace jokingly suggested that the government make subsidies for Nasi Kerabu using their IC, with a quota of 300 Nasi Kerabu per month.

@snaim247 further pointed out that the Nasi Kerabu are few of the dishes capable of standing toe to toe against the Nasi Ayam Gepuk from Indonesia.

But above all the commotion and comedy, what defines Nasi Kerabu? Apparently it is a popular dish in Terengganu too, not just Kelantan.

The signature blue coloured rice comes from the petals of the Bunga Telang, and the meal is usually eaten with dried fish or fried chicken. However, we are all seeing this beloved dish in a new light, thanks to this very creative lady. — Focus Malaysia
