THE National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (NAICO Malaysia) has taken the next step in its strategic collaboration by teaming up with global leader in measurement technologies, Hexagon, to install the Hexagon Presto Optium system at MyAERO Associate Lab.
The deployment of the system at the MyAERO Associate Lab within the Smart Manufacturing Research Institute (SMRI) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam introduces advanced measurement and simulation capabilities, hence strengthening support for high-precision aerospace engineering, research and manufacturing.
This milestone underscores a shared commitment to advancing technological capabilities and enhancing Malaysia’s aerospace ecosystem. As aerospace programmes become increasingly complex, the need for accuracy, efficiency and reliability continues to grow.
Hexagon’s Presto Optium system addresses this by enabling advanced engineering analysis across design validation, performance testing and manufacturing, supporting faster innovation and improved quality.
The installation also highlights the impact of collaboration in accelerating industry development. Delivered in partnership with SMRI UiTM and enabled through NAICO Malaysia’s investment and facilitation, the initiative strengthens the connection between academia and industry.
It enables the MyAERO Centre to better support real-world aerospace challenges while equipping students with practical, industry-relevant skills.
By combining industry-grade technology with academic research, the collaboration supports Malaysia’s ambition to move up the aerospace value chain, driving innovation, strengthening capabilities and developing future-ready talent.
“This collaboration reflects NAICO Malaysia’s continued commitment to strengthening the national aerospace ecosystem through strategic partnerships,” commented NAICO Malaysia’s CEO Dr Shamsul Kamar Abu Samah.

“The deployment of advanced technologies such as Presto Optium at the MyAERO Centre enhances our capability to bridge industry and academia while supporting innovation, talent development and Malaysia’s aspiration to become a leading aerospace hub in the region.”
Hexagon’s ASEAN, Pacific, South Korea & Japan managing director Frederick Lim said Hexagon is proud to support Malaysia’s ambition to become a leading regional aerospace hub.
“Close collaboration between industry, academia and national bodies such as NAICO is essential to accelerating innovation and building long-term capability,” he acknowledged.
As it is, Malaysia’s aerospace sector has continued to gain momentum with the support of strong government backing and increasing investment in research and development.
With advanced technologies such as Presto Optium now in place, the MyAERO Associate Lab is well positioned to drive innovation and support the future growth of the industry. – Focus Malaysia
