UMNO RETURNEE Khairy Jamaluddin has stressed that UMNO’s Rumah Bangsa initiative is not an electoral coalition but a broader platform to unite Malay parties in safeguarding religion, race, and national identity.
“The spirit is to unite all Malay parties in Malaysia. This is not about forming an official cooperation ahead of elections; this is bigger than that,” he said through the SKOP MG programme.
He also expressed sadness that other parties failed to follow suit with the invitation to rejoin UMNO under the initiative.
Khairy added that Malays are today divided because of the attitude of competing to be the champion without realising that outside enemies are watching the space to intervene.
But unlike the Malays, other communities, like the Chinese, are always aligned on sensitive issues.
“I am sad because when this initiative was started, there was little response from other parties. I speak frankly, if there are issues related to, for example, the Chinese community, DAP with MCA will have the same position.
“Even if they are not in any coalition, in terms of press conferences, they will be on the same page. Our Malays feel like competing with one another over who is more Malay or more Islamic, but all Malay parties are divided.
“Now this is not only a political coalition but is also divided in terms of competing to be the Malay-Islamic champion.
“That is where it is easy for others to take advantage,” he said in an interview on the Malaysia Gazette podcast. — Focus Malaysia
