UMNO must regain Malay trust with real reform, says Tok Mat

UMNO Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, speaking at the party’s 80th anniversary celebration in Kuala Lumpur, warned that Malays are no longer as supportive of UMNO as they once were.

He admitted the party has been sidelined from narratives of success and must restore confidence through performance, honesty, and real reform.

Mohamad, known as Tok Mat, urged members to stop relying on history and instead focus on the future, positioning UMNO as a “time-proof” party.

He stressed Malays want assurance of a strong future, not emotional appeals or demands for gratitude.

Highlighting UMNO’s strengths – its crisis management experience and loyal membership – he said the party is determined to heal, rebuild, and regain trust to remain relevant in Malaysia’s evolving  political landscape.

This is the reality that we must admit, and it must be corrected. UMNO must restore the confidence of the race with performance, honesty and real reform.

“The question now is what UMNO’s vision for the future is. What kind of Malaysia do we want to build? And what kind of Malays do we want to produce?

“In a world that is increasingly global and digital, the challenges are far more complex,” he said while speaking at UMNO’s 80th Anniversary Celebration at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.

Saying that UMNO must become a ‘time-proof’ party, the Rembau MP added: “Malays want confidence in the future that UMNO can offer.

“Not emotional lamentations, pleas for sympathy, repayment of debts of gratitude or demands for thanks.” - Focus Malaysia
