KUALA LUMPUR:
Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has not ruled out contesting the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat again at the next nationwide polls.

Khairy, however, said the party’s leadership would have the final say.

“I will leave it to the party leadership as I do not wish to pre-empt them,” he told Umno members at a meet-and-greet session here.

Khairy lost his bid to capture the parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15) after suffering a narrow defeat in the seven-cornered contest.

The former health minister obtained 48,250 votes, losing to Pakatan Harapan’s R Ramanan by a 2,693-vote majority. Ramanan secured 50,943 votes.

He was sacked a year later, in 2023, following disciplinary action linked to GE15.

Earlier this month, the former Rembau MP rejoined Umno under the party’s “Rumah Bangsa” initiative.

Recently, Kedah Umno Youth suggested that Khairy contest in the state. - FMT
