Game over: MCMC blocks world's biggest online game store

Putrajaya has blocked access to Steam, the world largest online video game store, following a complaint about a game depicting religious figures that can be bought from the website.
Several Steam users told Malaysiakini that the website was inaccessible since this evening, although the Steam software - which is required to launch downloaded games - was still functional.
Earlier today, Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would demand that Steam prevent the "Fight of Gods" game from being downloaded by Malaysians.
"Failing which, further action will be taken," said Salleh, adding that the game threatened racial unity and harmony in Malaysia.
"It is in the public interest to ensure that immediate steps are taken so that such contents do not continue to harm others," he said.

"Fight of Gods" was released on Sept 4 by Taiwanese developers Digital Crafter.
Among others, the game features characters with the likeness of Buddha, Jesus, Moses, Odin, Anubis Zues and Guan Yu, among others.
However, it was the trailer featuring a character bearing the crown of thorns that led to worldwide infamy.
The game trailer states "He's back and he's cross!" before the character is seen viciously attacking a bronze character sitting on what looks like a lotus. -Mkini
