MIC on Tamil daily assault: Leave it to police probe

MIC will not initiate any internal probe against its Youth members allegedly involved in an assault at the Tamil Malar newspaper premises on Sept 5, party president Dr S Subramaniam said today.
"The case is being investigated by the police, so I will allow the police to complete the investigation," he said after attending the BN presidential council meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
"We got totally conflicting views and conflicting statements from both sides, so the police would be the best to investigate the matter.
"The police got the power of investigating and will come up with the correct answer. We will be guided by the finding of the police investigation," Subramaniam said.
Two journalists with Tamil Malar were reportedly assaulted by a group of MIC Youth members on Sept 5.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister M Saravanan, who has also been accused of being involved in the assault, claimed he showed up at the Tamil daily premises to prevent any untoward things from his boys.

Meanwhile, myPPP president M Kayveas who, who was also present at the BN meeting, condemned the assault against the media personnel.
"What happened was not acceptable. A serious assault has taken place and someone has to be responsible for it," Kayveas told members of the media.
"If this is myPPP, we would have suspended those involved first and we will start an (internal) inquiry and make a decision," he added.
