PAS pressures MBPJ in anticipation of beer fest move

PAS is applying pressure on the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MBPJ) to object any application for the Better Beer Festival 2017 to be held in Selangor.
Speaking at the lobby of MBPJ headquarters in Petaling Jaya today, PAS Ulama treasurer Khairuddin Aman Razali claimed an application had been submitted to the local council.
"This objection is made because they have submitted an application despite the event being rejected (by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall) in Kuala Lumpur.
"They are still talking about organising the event despite warnings from the inspector-general of police," he said.
In the visit to MBPJ today, the three wings of PAS - Ulama, women and youths - submitted a memorandum to Petaling Jaya mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain, urging that MBPJ reject the event.
Khairuddin said he was informed that the application submitted to MBPJ had yet to fully comply with procedures.
"Amongst the procedure, includes approval from the police and customs department," he said.
He also claimed the event's organiser was planning to hold it at One Utama shopping centre, which falls within the jurisdiction of MBPJ.
Malaysiakini has contacted the organiser for confirmation over the claim and is waiting for a response.
On Monday, Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi also vowed to block the event if it moved to Selangor.
The Better Beer Festival 2017, was to be held on Oct 6 and Oct 7 at Publika shopping mall.

The event first received national spotlight after PAS central committee member Riduan Mohd Nor warned that the event risked attracting reprisal from extremists.
Th organiser later revealed their application to hold the event, which was allowed to go ahead in previous years, were rejected by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) due to "political sensitivities".
MCA president Liow Tiong Lai who raised the matter in the cabinet later claimed the event was rejected due to security concerns.
Inspector-general of police Mohamed Fuzi Harun later also said there was the possibility of militants targeting the event.
Meanwhile, Utusan Malaysia quoted Mohd Azizi as saying that the event was Oktoberfest 2017 and that it had yet to receive approval from MBPJ.

He said the application could not be processed as the organiser had yet to get a letter of support from the police and Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
He noted that the indoor event had been organised in the last five years.
"The past approval had the same criteria. So we expect that the organiser is well aware of the matter (criteria) before proceeding.
"For now, we can't make any decision which on the event which is to take place at 1Utama, Bandar Utama on Oct 5 to 8," he was quoted as saying.- Mkini
