Pua firm that Najib will get no apology

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua is firm that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will receive no apology from him.

Pua said this in response to Najib's lawyer Mohd Hafarizam Harun who said his client was open to an apology as a resolution to two defamation suits Najib has against the DAP lawmaker.

"There's absolutely no reason to apologise when I've spoken only the truth, so why should I apologise?" Pua told Malaysiakini.

"I'm, however, open for Najib to withdraw his suits against me," he added.

In a Facebook posting later, Pua poked fun at the offer for him to apologise.

"Oooh! Our PM is so magnanimous! Tears are rolling out.

"All I need to do is say "Sorry, Mr Prime Minister" and our most benevolent prime minister will drop the (presumably two) defamations suits against me. No hard feelings.

"What do you think guys?" he said on Facebook.

Pua said if Najib found his legal fees too costly, the advice was for him to retract the "time-wasting" cases.

Najib had in March 2015, filed a defamation against Pua for a speech which he claimed implied he had stolen the people's money through 1MDB.

Najib in April 2017 filed another defamation suit against Pua about the proposed amendments to the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355), which he claimed was meant to distract from Najib's problems with 1MDB.

Earlier today, Hafarizam said Najib was open to an apology from Pua.
