HOW FAR PAS HAS FALLEN POST NIK AZIZ: IN TERRIBLE INSULT TO HIS OWN PARTY, HADI WARNS PAS CANNOT WIN WITHOUT UMNO’S HELP

PAS cannot win more than its current 14 federal seats by relying on its supporters alone, says party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

“We have 195 divisions in the 222 parliamentary constituencies throughout the country. This means that the majority of constituencies have PAS.

“But we have to realise that in our parliamentary democracy, we need a lot of votes to win power,” said Hadi during a fundraising dinner in Marang last night.

According to a Sinar Harian report, Hadi said PAS could not win with just PAS members alone.

“We need others to support us,” said the Marang MP, who broke away from the opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat after spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s death.

“There are also fence sitters in other parties, including Umno members, who must be invited to vote for us so that there can be political change,” said Hadi.

Last October, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the syura council had decided against political cooperation with Umno in the 14th general election as it could weaken the Islamist party.

Hadi said that PAS was unaffected by the splinter group Amanah as the number of new members this year had been encouraging.

“We had a very surprising year and registered 41,000 new members.

“So, let’s not worry about those who left as there are more who have joined us,” said Hadi.
