Prime minister-designate Dr Mahathir Mohamad has dismissed attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali's claim that the latter was apolitical and was advising the federal government.
"I am not saying anything against the government now as there is no government. If there is a person saying he is advising the government, he is talking a lot of nonsense.
"I think the public prosecutor or the attorney-general had said today he is advising the government is bullshit!" he said during a press conference today.
In a statement earlier today, Apandi had issued a statement to declare that the attorney-general's chambers is apolitical.
"We are the legal advisers to the government of the day and at the same time, we are the prosecutor of criminal offences as determined by the law.
"We shall continue to ensure the rule of law without fear or favour," said Apandi.
'My face no longer haram'
Meanwhile, Mahathir also took potshots at the Election Commission during his press conference today.
While posing for press photographers, Mahathir said: "You do not have to cut my photographs as before as it is no longer haram."
Throughout the campaign period, billboards which carried Mahathir's face had to be removed due to EC rules on campaign material.
Some Pakatan Harapan candidates resorted to cutting out Mahathir's face from the billboard or covering it up. - Mkini
