PETALING JAYA: National shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei has denied that he is a co-owner of the Raj Banana Leaf restaurant in Bangsar that was shut down due to unhygienic food practices.
"No no no. Bukan saya (Not me)," he told The Star when contacted about this on Wednesday (May 30).
However, a company search with the Companies Commission of Malaysia revealed Lee as one of the three directors of the company which owns the restaurant, InterCompass Sdn Bhd.
The restaurant drew the ire of thousands of social media users after a 30-second video showed three of its staff members squatting at the back of the restaurant, scrubbing and rinsing plates in what appears to be a puddle of water in a pothole next to a drain.
The banana leaf eatery in Bangsar was forced to shut down by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) on Wednesday.
Raj’s Banana Leaf later clarified that Lee is not linked to the restaurant.
“While we acknowledge that Datuk Lee Chong Wei was previously a director of the company, he had resigned from his directorship prior to the said incident and he was in any event not involved in the day-to-day operations of our restaurants,” said the restaurant in a Facebook post on Wednesday (May 30).- Star
