'Back pain' Jamal charged in hospital for smashing beer bottles

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunus has been charged in connection with a protest where he smashed beer bottles in front of the Selangor state secretariat building in Shah Alam last October.
Sinar Harian reported that the proceedings took place at the Ampang Puteri Hospital where the firebrand politician is undergoing treatment for back pain.
The red shirts' leader claimed trial before Magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin to a charge under Section 290 of the Penal Code, which is related to being a public nuisance.
If found guilty, Jamal, 48, can be slapped with a fine of RM400.
The court allowed the Umno leader bail at RM3,000 and fixed June 8 for mention at the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court.
The October 5 protest was against the “Better Beer Festival 2017”.
On Tuesday, Jamal was arrested at the same hospital for a firearms offence, which is being investigated under Section 34 of the Arms Act 1960.
The section concerns the carrying of a firearm while drunk or disorderly.
Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor said that on May 12, a police report was lodged on a viral photograph showing a man resembling Jamal showing off a gun.

The photograph, which emerged in late 2016, showed the man holding a toddler in one hand while a gun was tucked into his waistband.
However, from the photograph, it could not be ascertained if this was a real firearm. -Mkini
