Congrats, but we'll be watching you, Sarawak CM tells Harapan gov't

Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Abang Openg has congratulated Pakatan Harapan for capturing Putrajaya, saying his government will closely monitor the latter's promises made in the manifesto in the next five years, particularly those relating to Sarawak.

In a statement, Abang Johari said the Sarawak BN government respects the decision of the rakyat, to vote Harapan into office, in yesterday's 14th general election.

"The state BN government, even though an opposition government, will continue to work with the federal government for the benefit of the rakyat in Sarawak in particular, and Malaysia in general.

"Our top priority is to reclaim state rights which have been eroded over the years, back to Sarawak, as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963, and the Federal Constitution.

"The state government will closely monitor all the promises as contained in the Harapan manifesto in the next five years, particularly relating to Sarawak," he said.

Harapan landed a sweeping victory over BN in yesterday's polls, ending BN's tight grip on power for 61 years.

Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad was just sworn in as the country's seventh prime minister. -Mkini
