The national debt to gross domestic product (GDP) ratio is now at 65 percent, says Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He was informed of this figure by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng he said during a post-cabinet press conference today in Putrajaya.
The premier was asked what the current debt ratio was based on his estimate that national debt was over RM1 trillion.
In March, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak said the debt ratio was at 50.8 percent, below the government's 55 percent debt ratio ceiling.
