Don't forget EC's 'inefficiency' in managing the elections, says Maria

GE14 | Former Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah has urged Malaysians to hold the Election Commission (EC) accountable for its “inefficiency” in managing the 14th general election.
"The rakyat of this country has spoken and it is now time for us to chase our dreams for a brighter future.
"At the same time, we should not set aside or forget the inefficiency shown by the EC in handling this election.
"Yesterday, there were many issues which were discovered and have been reported to the police," Maria said in a statement today.
She cited the example of the EC not allowing voters to vote even though they had been queuing up for hours.
The EC has no excuse to allow such things to happen especially during such an important election for the country, she said.
Maria, who won the Petaling Jaya parliamentary seat under PKR's banner in yesterday's election, thanked locals for supporting her with a large majority.
She won by a majority of 57,137 votes.
"Throughout the process of this election, I have heard many stories from the residents of Petaling Jaya which have touched my heart.
"They have told me stories of their struggles due to the economy and management of the country.
"Many among us can no longer afford basic necessities anymore. Our economy is also getting worse.
"At the same time, our country's institutions were also being destroyed," she said.
As such, she said, she wanted to reaffirm her commitment to her reformation agenda in Parliament.
Through her cooperation with Pakatan Harapan, Maria said she was determined to become a politician who fights for the oppressed.
The 14th general election saw Harapan, under the leadership of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, pulling off an unprecedented victory last night, ending more than six decades of rule by BN.
However, Umno president Najib Abdul Razak says no party has won enough seats to form a federal government and that it is up to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to decide who is the seventh prime minister of Malaysia. - Mkini
