PUTRAJAYA – Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today said the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government would not scrap the early childhood education programme founded by Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak.
According to Bernama, Wan Azizah said this was because the National Permata Programme (Permata) was linked to children’s development and welfare activities.
She said the new government would continue programmes that were beneficial to the people.
“But we will audit and review the programmes in terms of their allocations and cost-effectiveness,” Wan Azizah, who is also the women and family development minister, told reporters this morning.
However, she dodged questions on when the audit would be completed, quipping: “It’s my first day, give me a break.”
Yesterday, Rosmah said she hoped the PH government would not pull the plug on Permata.
PH had previously questioned Permata’s finances, calling for the programme to be abolished to save government expenditure.
