GE14 | Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Amanah's Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz are scheduled to share the spotlight at a ceramah in Putrajaya tomorrow.
The event is slated for 8.30pm near the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque in Precinct 3.
Joining them will be the Bersatu candidate for Putrajaya, Samsul Adabi.
Nik Omar's shock decision to leave PAS for its splinter party Amanah has been on the tip of many tongues since the surprise decision to field him as a Harapan candidate for the Chempakastate seat in Kelantan.
Chempaka is of major significance to PAS as it was the state constituency which his father Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat represented for six terms.
Nik Omar is Nik Abdul Aziz's second child and eldest son. Although he has long been a PAS member, he has not been politically active until now.
According to an Amanah leader, Nik Omar's address in Putrajaya will allow him to connect with the many Kelantanese civil servants there.
"This event is significant for the fence-sitters. The more liberal Malays will be there for Mahathir.
"The conservatives, who are might be less attracted to Mahathir, will be covered by Nik Omar," he said.
Nik Omar, said the source, has been active with "dakwah" work in the Klang Valley and he was not a stranger in the administrative capital.
He is expected to campaign along the peninsula's west coast until Sunday before returning to campaign in Kelantan. - Mkini
