Dr Mahathir said the palace had been notified by the EC about PH's simple majority.
KUALA LUMPUR: There will be no swearing-in ceremony for Dr Mahathir Mohamad, following Pakatan Harapan’s victory yesterday.
It is understood that an announcement on his swearing-in will be made later, although it is not clear the reason for the postponement.
The coalition’s chairman was slated to take his oath of office as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister in front of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V at 9.30am today, after PH achieved the simple majority needed form the federal government.
Earlier this morning, Mahathir said that when the palace was informed of PH’s victory, they had contacted them.
“They have not been told by the Election Commision that we have achieved a majority,” he said with other party members from DAP, Amanah, PPBM and PKR.
He said once the palace appoints the prime minister, he will appoint the deputy prime minister and other members of the new Cabinet.
PH previously said it would appoint PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the deputy prime minister. -FMT
