END OF THE ROAD FOR NAJIB & APANDI: U.S. DOJ & FBI IN TOWN TO DISCUSS RETURN OF SEIZED BILLIONS WITH 1MDB TASKFORCE, REVEAL APANDI HAD BLOCKED & DELAYED ITS INVESTIGATION IN 2017

PUTRAJAYA: Officers from the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DoJ) from the have met with the 1MDB Special Task Force here at Perdana Putra.
In a statement Thursday (May 24), the task force said the bilateral meeting was held to discuss the 1MDB investigation, including the process to regain Malaysian assets that have been frozen in the US.
Among the issues raised included FBI’s letter dated Nov 13, 2016 to the then Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad, which did not receive any response.
“DoJ had also confirmed that it had made a ‘Mutual Legal Assistance’ (MLA) request to the then Attorney-General Tan Sri Apandi Ali on Sept 22, 2017. However, the request was not fulfilled and delayed on the grounds that it will affect ongoing investigations by Malaysian authorities,” the statement said.  
Following the meeting, both parties have agreed to provide full cooperation to each other to ensure investigations can be completed.
The 1MDB special task force comprises former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gail Patail, former MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, current MACC chief Datuk Seri Shukri Abdull and Federal Special Branch director Datuk Hamid Bador. – ANN

1MDB taskforce meets DOJ and FBI

The 1MDB taskforce has confirmed that it has met US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) representatives.
The taskforce said discussions revolved around “direction and focus” of the 1MDB investigation, mutual legal assistance and the recovering of 1MDB assets from the US.
The meeting was held at 11am today at the Prime Minister’s Office.
“Among the issues raised were how the FBI had sent an application letter dated Nov 13, 2016 to the MACC chief at the time – Dzulkifli Ahmad – but the application has yet to receive a reply till this day.
“The DOJ also confirmed that it had previously made a request through a MLA to the attorney-general Apandi Ali on Sept 22, 2017.
“However, this request was not fulfilled and delayed, the reason given was that it would affect ongoing investigations by Malaysian enforcement authorities.
“That is why no co-operation has been given until today,” the taskforce said in a statement today.
The task force said the DOJ and FBI agreed to offer their full co-operation to Malaysian authorities in the latter’s ongoing probe into the state strategic investment fund.
The 1MDB taskforce is led by former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail. – MKINI
