'Evil Mahathir' campaign intensifies in Langkawi

GE14 | The campaign demonising Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Langkawi, where he is contesting, has intensified.

The latest anti-Mahathir campaign materials were distributed in Pekan Kuah and the nearby jetty.

The A4-sized full-colour pamphlets featured a picture of Mahathir laughing as what appears to be a Hindu temple is being demolished.

It had the caption: "Hahaha, last time, it was I who instructed the demolition."

Another A4-sized full-colour pamphlet showed a gathering of Malay rulers.

Below was a picture of Mahathir laughing with the words: "Hahahahaha!! It was I who stripped the Malay rulers of their immunity."

Harapan campaigner Mahkyar Othman, 57, said the distribution of the pamphlets were discovered at 2am, while he and other volunteers were putting up PKR flags around Kuah.

"We were installing flags when we saw a Toyota Vios make a turn. It had dumped the pamphlets here.

"We didn't realise it was something like this. We thought they had dropped them," he told Malaysiakini.

Mahkyar said campaigners had collected the anti-Mahathir pamphlets and disposed of them.

"They left a pile of this by the roadside but (we) have not found them elsewhere," he said.

Prior to this, a four-page flyer urging the Chinese community to "exact revenge" on Mahathir had been distributed in Langkawi.

The Mandarin-language flyers accused Mahathir of being anti-Chinese.

Mahathir is contesting against Umno's incumbent Nawawi Ahmad and PAS' Zubir Ahmad. - Mkini
