PETALING JAYA – Mak Chili Umno have proposed ex-finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah as Umno president from 2018 to 2021.
The chief of the branch in Kemaman, Terengganu, Maidin Hassan said that this was the consensus reached by the grassroots there.
He said that the proposal was brought up to heal Umno after Barisan Nasional’s loss in the 14th general election.
Tengku Razaleigh, 81, is popularly known as Ku Li.
“Umno is the backbone of BN, so with this defeat, Umno has to undergo healing. There is no one but Ku Li to lead Umno and BN.
“With his charisma and character, we are confident that Ku Li will be able to restore the strength and dignity of Umno and BN,” he said after the branch Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday that was attended by 63 members.
