Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo (above) today assured that the Pakatan Harapan administration did not promote nor support media blackouts.
He said this in response to complaints by Sarawak cabinet member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah's that the Sarawak government was not being given airtime by state broadcaster RTM.
Gobind said Harapan was committed to press freedom and disapproved of the previous administration's practice of media blackouts.
"(Abdul Karim) is welcome to write in to me about it officially if he wants to. If he does, I will certainly look into it," wrote Gobind on his Facebook page today.
RTM and national newswire Bernama are under Gobind's purview.
Abdul Karim had complained that Sarawak government functions were no longer given airtime and thus information could not be disseminated within the state.
"Personally, I think this should not be the way.
"If our chief minister or other ministers from BN have programmes which are apolitical, RTM should be impartial and publish the news,” he had said.
Abdul Karim claimed that the 7 am RTM news bulletin has also stopped broadcasting news related to the BN state government.
"Sarawak should not be penalised by the national media just because we are (with the federal) opposition," he said. - Mkini
